ECM Cloud Strategy

“Cloud computing is a model for enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.” Source: National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)

As Cloud computing becomes more mainstream, it is becoming imperative for Enterprises to evolve a Cloud strategy as it applies to their enterprise applications including their ECM solutions. Some of the reasons to consider ECM cloud strategy are:

  • High cost of on premise applications
  • Failed implementations
  • On demand availability and scalability
  • Pay based on consumption
  • Access to feature updates without having to do costly upgrades
  • Service based instead of product based architectures

However there are issues that need to considered before deciding on the ECM Cloud Strategy

  • Security and Data Protection
  • Compliance
  • Vendor lock-in
  • Service Level Agreements
  • Migration of existing applications and data to the cloud
  • Integrations with other cloud and on-premise Enterprise solutions
