Documentum D6.7 Upgrade

With the recent release of EMC Documentum version 6.7, customers are gearing up to put together upgrade paths and projects for their Documentum infrastructure. BPA has vast experience in Documentum upgrades including helping our Customers upgrade from their unsupported versions. BPA considers the following before defining the implementation path for the upgrade:

  • Analysis of existing environments including customizations and integrations
  • Analysis of impact of proposed changes in the new architecture
  • Analysis of new components to identify which of them need to be installed and configured
  • Fix and/or retire customizations as needed based on the change in architecture and new features provided by the new version
  • Understand the SLAs of the existing system to ensure minimum disruption
  • Ensure the performance of the system matches the industry benchmarks based on the hardware being used

BPA, can help customers achieve success with their 6.7 upgrade so that they can take advantage of the new features available with this version like:

Single Sign-on for applications on non-Windows OS: The network authentication protocol Kerberos is designed to provide a strong mutual authentication between a client and a server or between multiple servers on an open network that usually does not have a security method implemented in it. Earlier version of Documentum ECM introduced support to Kerberos SSO with Content Server running only on Windows. Documentum ECM 6.7 extends such support to non-Windows OS, including Linux and Unix. This provides enhanced security.

Usage tracking and reporting: Content Server Enterprise Edition, DFC, DFS, Webtop, Taskspace, RPS/RM, and My Documentum have been instrumented to track usage. 6.7 will support the user model, for example, tracking usage based on user seats. Automated jobs will be available for the Documentum administrator who will then be able to create basic reports in the form of comma separated file, based on the usage information thus collected. There will be a facility to export the report into excel sheets which can then be used for further analysis.

Centera support for MAC files: For release 6.7, Content Server offers improved Centera integration. It is now possible to store and retrieve files that were created on Macintosh platforms.

xPlore: Documentum 6.7 comes with xPlore - the next generation integrated search for Documentum replacing FAST Instream Search. xPlore provides enhanced search capabilities including Parallel queries over multiple collections, Security improvements, support for additional languages and formats.

Retention Policy Services: Release 6.7 consolidates RPS Administrator with Records Management Administrator into a unified role-based Records Client. The new Client provides among other things additional roles, the ability to export, import and copy retention policies.

Customers can also benefit from other features like:

  • Support for Linux and Office 2010 files
  • Support for CMIS - SOAP and RESTful web services
  • .Net based UCF support
